People Powered Retrofit, a not-for-profit service for householders in Greater Manchester, has launched retrofit training courses for all construction workers to fill an urgent skills gap in the region.
There is a growing and urgent need for retrofit if the UK is to meet net zero targets, but progress is being held back by a lack of specialist skills across the construction sector.
People Powered Retrofit, hope to fill this skills gap by providing in-person and online courses for all members of the industry to learn the fundamentals of crucial retrofit work.
The 2-day Retrofit Fundamentals course is taught by People Powered Retrofit’s experienced team of retrofit practitioners. However, peer-based learning is also key to the success of the programme.
By bringing together construction professionals from a range of backgrounds – from joiners to architects, and site managers to retrofit consultants – the training breaks down barriers between parts of the supply chain. This enables participants to make connections and helps to build a network of retrofitters that carries on beyond the classroom which will accelerate the region’s retrofit targets.
Marion Lloyd-Jones, a People Powered Retrofit Tutor says, “Traditionally, there isn’t always communication between design and contractors on projects. On these courses, it’s nice to have architects and specifiers in the same room as installers so that people build a shared understanding of retrofit.”
In-person courses will take place at The Boiler House in Moss Side, Manchester. This community workshop has step-free access and is easily reached on public transport.
The training is also available as an online course, with 2-hour webinars delivered in both the morning and evening to widen access to anyone in the UK who wants to attend.
Course fees start from £90 for online courses and £170 for in-person courses. Booking is now open for the following dates:
September 6-7
