A new walking trail has been launched celebrating some of the Manchester’s best green, blue and outdoor spaces, encouraging people to get outdoors.
This guide helps residents from across the region explore the incredible green space that already exists in Manchester and explore urban greening like never before.
The Manchester Green Spaces Trail is a brand-new walking trail celebrating the best outdoor areas across the city centre and encouraging people to get outdoors.
The new guide, created in collaboration with Manchester tour guide Jonathan Schofield, showcases a free-to-do and accessible tour featuring 16 garden and water spaces in central Manchester and Salford.
Commissioned by Manchester Accommodation BID (Business Improvement District) on behalf of city centre hotels, the trail is revealed following the success of the hugely successful RHS Urban Show in Manchester this April
It also intends to celebrate the upcoming Manchester Flower Festival, taking place across the city centre from 24th -27th May Bank Holiday.
The guide has been funded by the City Visitor Charge, which is a supplementary £1 charge per room/unit per night for guests added to the final accommodation bill.
The statutory charge is collected from all paid accommodation establishments in Manchester Accommodation BID zone and has applied to all bookings since 1 April 2023.
The Manchester Green Spaces Trail features 16 garden and water spaces in central Manchester and Salford – Cotton Field Park, Mayfield Park, Sackville Gardens & Kampus, Bridgewater Hall canalside, Castlefield and Castlefield Viaduct, St John’s Gardens, Parsonage Gardens, Cathedral Gardens & Glade of Light, St Michael’s Flags and Angel Meadow Park, Greengate Gardens, Peel Park & The Meadow, Middlewood Locks & Aviva Studios, Ordsall Hall & gardens, Hulme Park & Deansgate Square, All Saints Garden, Brunswick Park & University Green.
The guide includes with each entry a description, jam-packed with historic and current facts showcasing the site, its significance and beauty.
The trail is free to download as a map here and print copies will be available to pick up at The Manchester Flower Festival (Information Point, St Ann’s Square 24th-27th May).
Copies are also available at the Tourist Information Centre, Central Library.
