To help communities across Greater Manchester benefit from green spaces, the second round of applications for the Greater Manchester Green Spaces fund is now open.
The £2.6m Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund supports community-led projects that increase the amount and quality of accessible, nature-rich green space across the city region.
Following a successful first round of bids, it has been announced that applications will open for another round of funding.
Applications for the second round of the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund are open now until noon on Friday 27th January 2023.
All residents of Greater Manchester with a community-led project can apply, and areas that are in particular need of green space are encouraged to apply.
The Greater Manchester Green Spaces fund offers small grants of up to £10,000 and large grants of between £10,000 and £40,000.
The fund aims to help tackle inequalities in access to green spaces across the city-region. Its aim is to benefit the communities in greatest need of access to safe, clean green spaces.
The fund will be used to support projects which will increase citizens’ access to quality green spaces, by either creating new accessible green spaces or improving spaces by making physical enhancements for nature and people.
It’s hoped that projects will encourage biodiversity and support wildlife while also encouraging residents to get outside, improving active travel across Greater Manchester.
Potential projects could include:
- Improving existing or creating new accessible green space for people and/or wildlife
- Permanently greening streets
- Creating new permanent parklets or pocket parks
- Community gardening/food growing
- Turning paved-over areas to green areas
- Cleaning up and restoring streams, rivers, canals, and ponds
The Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund, announced by the Mayor of Greater Manchester, is part of the new Greater Manchester Strategy, will offer small grants to communities to clean up and improve local green spaces or create new ones where they are needed.
